"News & Announcements from the Community" is intended to be an organized community "blog" which enables all registered users to submit and self approve for posting news and announcements on a variety of topics relevant to daily life in Colonial Beach. Business License Requirements in Colonial Beach, Virginia
All businesses operating in the Town of Colonial beach must obtain (or renew) an annual business license on or before the end of February each year. The town mails applications for renewing businesses in January and these must be returned to the Town Clerk at: Town of Colonial Beach 18 North Irving Avenue Colonial Beach, VA 22443 no later than March 1. To avoid a 10% penalty and interest being assessed, submit the application with payment on or before April 1. If you have any questions, contact Barbara A. Virginia Legislative Reps Propose Menhaden Extinction!
Virginia State Senator Richard H. Stuart of Montross and Va. Delegate Barry Knight of Virginia Beach have filed bills for introduction in the 2012 Virginia General Assembly which could set the stage for total extinction of the Menhadden fishery in the Chesapeake. Menhadden, which form a basic foundation of the Chesapeake Bay's food chain have been increasingly subject to overfishing, and in November, 2011, the Atlantic States marine Fisheries Commission took the first steps towards establishment of science based "catch limits" to preserve the species.
